Southern Illinois man accused of swinging toddler against wall is charged with murder

On Friday night, Michael Pulliam, 2, was left in the care of Jarrod W. Rudder of Elkville, Ill., authorities said. Rudder grabbed Michael's wrist and swung the child by the arm, beating the child against a lamp and a wall, they say.
Elkville is about 90 miles southeast of St. Louis. Emergency workers in the village were called just before midnight Friday and found Michael unconscious. He was taken to a hospital in Carbondale, then flown to St. Louis Children's Hospital.
