Who should get a new heart 1st?

Dick Cheney had a heart transplant and he is in his 70s. He got a new heart almost right away. Now people are debating this: Shouldn't we be giving new hearts to younger people first? They are saying that younger people have years and years ahead of them to live. While older, elder, patients wont live long with or without a new heart anyways.

What are your opinions?
Should we be giving new hearts to older people before the younger people?
Or do you think that it shouldn't matter?
Should a 70 year old get a new heart before a 34 year old?

What are your views?

My honest opinion??????

Well of course it SHOULD go to the younger person ...but the reality is it will go to the wealthiest person... the person with better insurance.

I'm not sure if we should have ever started playing doc Frankenstien in the first place. When it's your time you go.

Sometimes, I tend to agree that money plays a part, even though it's not supposed to, but there are other circumstances that either exclude, or deny the use of a transplant....it's just not all that simple. Say, a long time alcoholic needs a new liver...even though he is young, should he get it over an older person, who is not? If you give it to the alcoholic, and he keeps drinking, and ruins that liver too, what's the use? Just a thought
