Quitting Smoking Those Damn cigs

Subject: Quitting Smoking Those Damn cigs Thu Mar 29, 2012 10:30 am

What are some ways (that work) to help you quit smoking. I've been smoking since I was 12 years old and I just can't stop. Nicotine patches don't work hardly at all. I don't know what to do. I can't just quit cold turkey. I am a total bitch without cigs anyway. I really need to quit though. What should I do to quit smoking?

I did quit for 2 years.
I was super sick and couldn't smoke, so it was easy...

But what's the line from "Sin City"

Yeah, I think that's the one. One bad incident + one friend smoking next to me = me smoking again.

I hear that. If someone lights up next to me it immediately makes me crave a cig...

I want to try that Chantex but I'm so afraid of the side effects. I have heard a lot of bad things about it. Suicide is one of them. My dad took Chantex and didn't like it. But there is another pill out there. I'm not sure what it is called but my dad takes that one now. I'm not sure if it is working for him or not. I'll have to ask him next time I talk to him. Honestly, I'm not sure if a pill will even work on me. And I have to be careful of what pills I take. I already take quite a bit and I have to be careful on what combination of pills I take because it could really hurt me if I am not careful. Nothing else has worked. I really do want to quit smoking though,..

My mother smoked for 30 years then decided she needed to quit - she was getting headaches from them. So she went to a hypnotherapist - I imagine it was advertised in the newspaper - and she hasn't smoked since. I asked her if she ever gets cravings and she says 'no not really'. The thought occasionally crossed her mind to start again, but it was fleeting. She just doesn't smoke anymore.

*edit: she's been off them for about 25 years.

Okay, so, I tried those electronic cigs. They are not as good as real cigs. But they get the job done. I just miss the taste. They don't really have that cig taste. But you get a good nicotine buzz off of them. They do have a nice stinging..er..burning..or whatever, sensation when you inhale them. It's like the sensation that a real cig would give you. Um.. I mean.. It's like your inhaling the smoke but there is no taste. There, that made more sense (I am DEAD tired, sorry). But I was doing sooo good smoking the electronic cigs. My lungs even started to feel better. But when my mom and I went to get refills for them it was 10 bucks for just 3 refills!! That's BS! 3 refills would never last me 2 weeks! We couldn't afford enough so I just got a carton of regular cigs. It sucks. I feel bad for smoking them again. *sigh* When I (or my mom, she buys me the cigs, lol) can afford it I'll get more refills and start smoking the electronic cigs again. Damn cigs! Evil or Very Mad

It gives me hope really. I mean, the last two times I tried to quit, I immediately started having terrible mood swings, which were embarassing, so I haven't tried since. They say quitting is easier if you have a bit of inner stability, so, on that count I'm a bit better off than last time. Those electronic cigs sound interesting. Your mum sounds like a real supportive person. Good on you guys. I think I'll try the patches next time. I've heard good things about them.

Yeah, when I don't have any cigs I get really moody too. I only have 4 real cigs left and 3 refills for my electronic cigs. Evil or Very Mad

And I can't get anymore of either until the twenty-filth! grrr. I hope I don't run out before then but I probably will.

Patches kind of helped me but not as much as I wanted. I still smoked on patches lol. But it did help the urge a little bit I guess. But I gave up on them. Maybe I should give them another shot. Idk. They are expensive though! Here it's like 30 to 40 dollars just to get a months worth! If you want the good kind that is...

The patches are subsidised by the govt in this country - and rightfully so. So they're quite cheap. Maybe I could smuggle a carton in the mail to you? We'll see.
