Do the criminally insane go to heaven?

I was just wondering ,If a mentally ill person kills someone is that person still going to go to heaven? People can't help being mentally ill. At the rapture will the criminally insane go to heaven? When I was a kid I was raised Christian (I'm not anymore) and what my parents believed is that God doesn't judge you based on your beliefs or the horrible things you did in the past or whether your are homosexual or not. As long as your innocent or have a good heart or treat people/the earth with respect, ect..you will go to heaven in the rapture. That's what I was raised to believe. But if you think about it the criminally insane are really innocent because they have no control over their illness. If they were not criminally insane then who's to say that they wouldn't be a good person? Would God not let the criminally insane into heaven? God created everything, right? So did he create mental illness as well? What are your views?

I worked in a mental institution for 10 years and saw the most horrible things. I used to wonder how God could allow such things to happen to people. It seemed so cruel. I think if they should get a free pass if indeed there is a heaven.

It's an interesting question. I wonder how a Christian thoelogist would answer that? Personally I think the persons next life - not heaven or hell - will be based on how far the person managed to purify ones own mind or soul in this life. There's no judgement about it, just a natural course of events based on ones actions in the here and now.
Some religeons/philosophies say; an evil man can undo the bad karma in his own life and become a good man. I think thats what the Christians mean by 'repenting'.
But the criminally insane ? If they truly had no concept of right and wrong, then maybe in their next life, they will have to learn that. And that's a difficult path.

I think there are the criminally insane, and there are people who are just plain evil, and are Dx criminally insane. I believe we all have to answer in some way if we hurt others for our actions, insane or not...but I also think that God is a forgiving God. In college, I did a paper on where a person would go if they committed suicide. I had to interview preachers from many denominations, even a Catholic priest, and they all said basically the same thing...even though this is a big sin, they didn't think that they would be sent to hell. I was rather surprised that not one of them said they would..Basically they said that God alone would know what was in their heart at the time, and that they believed they could still go to heaven...even a Pentecostal preacher. The paper was a very interesting one to do.

Sorry...I have no idea where the paper went.....too many years ago, but I remember doing it, and I remember their answers. It was quite enlightening.

I believe whether you are sane or not and if you kill someone you may not go. I know I've flipped my lid a few times and each time never killed or hurt anyone. I think an insane person can have just as much kindness in them as any sane person, if not more.

I think self defense is fine. There are people who could really do some lifelong damage in a conflict. If I had someone like that coming after me, it would be life or death. I also believe one might still go if they cause an accidental death of some sort.

Ok...so this is not really about the criminally insane, but what about the soldiers who kill others in War? Do they go to hell? Just wondering.... confused
